I am roving reporter number fourteen and I’m going to tell you what my class did this week in school. The school week was only three days long including Wednesday, Thursday and Friday. Each day had five classes including math, social studies, language arts, science, reading and specials class.
Starting Wednesday, we walked to Math class, Mrs. Doerr handed out unfinished math tests from last Friday to the kids in the class. Mrs. Doerr said we can finish our morning work if we have not finished yet. Soon after, Mrs. Doerr called a group of kids who needed help rounding numbers on the number line. Once we finished our work, were allowed to play the game “Sink or Swim”. Next, we went to Social Studies class. Our teacher, Mrs. Mevieson, handed out a worksheet and study guide about the Hopi people. We had to finish working on the study guide by the end of class. After Social Studies class, we had to go to Language Arts class, finish writing paragraphs for the hamburger sheet and tape them into our composition book. We were then given grammar homework before the end of class. Now, we had to go to Science class and read about food chains, food webs and ecosystems. After this class, we went to Mrs. Perryman’s Reading class. She handed out packets for reading groups. My group got on the computer and watched two videos on “close reading” and “main ideas”.
On Thursday, Math class began and the first thing that we did was check our morning work with our co-teacher Mrs. Johnson. Mrs. Johnson handed out a math worksheet to do so we can begin studying for a math test on Friday. After Math, we went to Social Studies class. We studied the Hopi people, wrote an essay on them, adding a title page and table of contents to the essay. At the end of class, we went to Language Arts class to begin checking morning work and home work. After we finished, we wrote a paragraph with the hamburger worksheet. Next, we went to Science class and read our Science book. We continued reading about food chains, food webs and ecosystems. After class, we went to Mrs. Cox for Reading groups. During class, we did close reading about sharks and filled out a graph.
On Friday, we went started with math class. The teacher handed out math tests from the morning work this week and some kids were called to the table so the co-teacher could read word problems on the back. Next we went to Social Studies class and checked our Hopi Study guide from Thursday. We looked at Hopi figurines on the computer and then watched a video on the Hopi people. After class, we went to Language Arts, checked morning work and worked on our Hamburger worksheet from yesterday. Next, we went to Science Class and worked on three worksheets on food webs and food chains and watched a video on the food web. After class, we went to Reading class and worked on finishing our reading packet and sentence strip.
This essay is a summary of how our school week was in my class this week. In each class, we did a lot of the same work throughout the week.
